PRP Therapy

Why PRP Therapy is a Miracle Treatment

PRP therapy, more commonly known as a ‘vampire facial’ rose to fame in Hollywood for its regenerative superpowers. While most Hollywood-famous cosmetic treatments induce a fair amount of scepticism from the rest of the world, PRP therapy is a treatment that our medical team stands behind. Here’s why.

How PRP Therapy Works

The PRP therapy process is initiated by drawing a small amount of the patient’s blood. The blood is passed through a centrifuge to separate the platelet rich plasma (PRP) from other components, after which, the PRP is injected back into the skin. Doing so encourages natural collagen growth in the patient’s skin – making it look rejuvenated and refreshed.

And given that PRP therapy uses the beneficial functions of the patient’s own platelets, the chance of an allergic reaction is very low compared to other cosmetic treatments.

Wrinkle Removal with PRP Therapy

Because plasma injections work to stimulate collagen production beneath the skin, they are highly effective at removing and minimising wrinkles. Collagen is the essential component that makes our skin look youthful and plump, so with an excess of collagen, wrinkles are far less visible. PRP therapy is particularly effective at reducing the appearance of crow’s feet and other fine lines around the eyes or mouth.

Cosmetic Benefits of PRP Therapy

Besides reducing the appearance of wrinkles, PRP therapy is also effective at targeting the following cosmetic concerns;

  • Dull skin
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Scarring (including scarring from acne)
  • Loose skin
  • Dark circles

If you have any other cosmetic concerns not listed above, get in touch with our team to discuss the best possible treatment.

PRP Therapy to Reduce Pain

While PRP treatments are most often used for cosmetic purposes, platelet rich plasma is also effective at treating arthritis pain. PRP can be injected into the site of pain, such as your knees, to harness your body’s own healing powers and reduce pain significantly. To find out whether you’re a suitable candidate for such treatments, contact our medical team.

What to Expect During a Treatment

Plasma treatments are completed in-office and usually take about 30-40 minutes. Before we commence the treatment, a numbing cream will be applied to your face, making the procedure fairly painless throughout. There may be some bruising and swelling within the first 3-4 days after the treatment, but this will resolve itself quickly. After your skin heals, the radiant effects of a PRP treatment can last for 2-3 years.
